Team Wildcat was conscripted to provide the area of
Jefferson Township, in Northern Wells County, with a new commercial building
that would be a viable contribution to the enjoyment of the community as a
whole. Team Wildcat must design a
building or group of buildings with the total area to be retained to 15,000
square feet, or less. The site is meant
to be a place of social commerce, while still meeting the 2009 IBC code
requirements presented for it. To begin the project, Team Wildcat gathered together to brainstorm ideas for possibilities of a commercial building. Ideas ranged from an internet cafe to an indoor paintball arena. Our team then used a decision matrix to compare the ideas to each other and to the property as it is. This helped Team Wildcat to get a broader view of the project and how the ideas stack up to each other on an objective scale. Based on the decision matrix, the constraints of the project, and the general consensus of Team Wildcat as a whole, we chose to build a YMCA on the plot of land that we were given. Our team met once again to design a conceptual Gantt chart to divide the work and assign to the members of the team. Risa was the primary building designer, Brinson was the landscape architect and parking lot designer, and Max dealt with the paper work. As we continued our individual work on the project, team members would converse about different aspects of the project to be up-to-date on the progress of the project, and make sure to adhere to any changes that were made.

Front Matter- Some posts are not properly labeled, but everything seems to be there. The gantt chart is not formatted properly. Embedding this would help. 3.5/5
Architectural Program (narrative)- Information is included. Make it more succinct. I don’t care about the team conversing and working on the project. I already know that. 5/5
Site Information- Maps and township information included. Good. 5/5
Codes Requirements- All areas addressed to the best of your abilities. 5/5
Viability Analysis- Your decision matrix is missing here. There is no cost estimate. I think a YMCA this far out of town may be problematic, as many who go there use the facilities are economically challenged, and may not have cars. The thing that helps it is that it is next to the school, bringing in potential guests. Even this is not a guarantee, as the school has many things that the YMCA has, and more. A good idea would be to focus on the things that make your option stand out as useful in the community. Sending out surveys to figure out what people want would be a good start to do this. However, this was beyond the scope of this project. These are simply things to think about. -1.5 points for a lack of decision matrix and cost estimate. 3.5/5
Preliminary Design- Missing 0/5
Revit Drawings- This was a very cool design. It would definitely catch people’s eyes as they drive by. However, there is no floorplan view, no renderings, and no views so I can get a sence of the building. It would be nice to see those. You are selling your project to me, and this is one of your strong points, so show it off! 7/10
Calculations- Noted based on your assumptions. 5/5
Conclusion Questions- I agree, improvements on the courtyard would be neat to see. Sometimes when working on a big project, it might seem like things are not relevant. However, the goal is to collect as much information as possible. What is worse to waste an hour finding some information that ended up not being relevant, or wasting a million dollars on something that is not viable because not enough research was done prior to groundbreaking? 5/5
Nice job on the project from what I saw. Unfortunately, I was not able to see all of this work on the blog where it counts. I think a little better organization would help show all of the work you put into the project better. You are smart, and a good writer, but organization and attention to detail are things that you need to work on to make you truly indispensable in a team.
